Vegetarian Japanese food: what to order at Akatuki

Japanese restaurants are often thought of as sushi and sashimi first, but a vegetarian table at Akatuki can be just as full. On our à la carte there is a dedicated vegetarian list, and it works well whether you are eating on your own or sharing with friends who order fish.
Start with a sharing plate
The easiest way in is the Vegetarian Sharing — Choose 3 at £21.80: any three dishes from the vegetarian list on one plate. It is a good way to try a few things before choosing mains.
Small plates from the vegetarian list
- Vegetable Gyoza, 5 pieces — £7.80
- Vegetable Tempura — £7.80
- Grilled Aubergine with Vinegared Miso — £7.80
- Buttered King Oyster Mushrooms with Sea Salt — £7.80
- Japanese Fried Tofu with Sweet Chilli Sauce — £7.80
- Pan Seared Green Peppers, blistered with sea salt and citrus — £7.80
- Salted or Spicy Edamame — £4.90
Rolls without fish
From the sushi counter, the Sweetheart Tempura Roll (£14.80) is a deep-fried inside-out roll filled with sweet potato, and the King Oyster Mushroom Tempura Roll is also £14.80. For something simpler, Cucumber Maki and Avocado Maki are £6.40 for six pieces.
Tell us what you need
If you are vegan, or have an allergy or another dietary requirement, please let the team know when you book and again when you order. We will talk you through the dishes so you can order with confidence.
The full list, with every price, is on our menu page. Akatuki is at 30 Great Queen Street, Covent Garden, WC2B 5BB, a few minutes from Covent Garden and Holborn stations.
