What we collect and why
Contact form
Your name, email address, phone number, the type of enquiry you choose and your message. The form sends these to our restaurant inbox by email so that we can reply, and sends you a short email to confirm we received it. The website does not keep its own copy of your message.
Newsletter sign-up
Your email address, the date you signed up and the page you signed up from. We keep these in our website database, send you a confirmation email and let our team know about the sign-up.
Group and event enquiries
The occasion, party size, preferred date and time, your name, email address and phone number, any note you add, and the page you sent the enquiry from. We keep these in our website database so we can arrange your event, and email a copy to you and to the restaurant's inboxes.
Offers and news
When you send a group or event enquiry, we may email you Akatuki's own menus, events and offers a few times a year, unless you tick “No offers or news, thanks” on the form. We keep your email address, where you gave it, the date, your answer and the words the form showed you. Every email lets you stop them, and you can also email us at any time to say no. We never send offers for other businesses, and you never need to agree to offers to book, enquire or enter a prize draw.
Online table bookings
Table bookings are made with Dojo, on Dojo's own booking pages, which open in a new tab. Dojo handles the details you enter there under its own privacy notice.
Booking button counts
When a booking, phone, email, directions or enquiry button is used, the website adds one to a daily count for that page and button, so we can see which pages help guests book. Only the total is kept: no cookie, internet address or anything else that could identify you.
On the home page we also count views per day, per design of the top of the page and per screen size (phone or larger), so we can see which design helps guests book. These are totals too, with no cookie.
Website analytics
Only if you accept cookies, we use Google Analytics to understand which pages people visit and how they find us. Google collects details such as the pages you view, your browser and device, and an approximate location worked out from your internet address. You can change your choice at any time in our cookie policy.
Visiting the website
Like any website, the services that deliver this site receive your internet (IP) address and basic browser details when you visit. The site is delivered through Cloudflare, which protects it and helps it load quickly. Images and menu files are served by this website itself. The map in each page's Find us section is a picture stored on this website. Google's live map loads only if you accept cookies or tap the map; your internet address is then sent to Google so it can deliver the map.
Why we are allowed to use it
- Replying to your messages and arranging group and event enquiries: to take the steps you have asked for, and our legitimate interest in answering our guests.
- Booking button counts: our legitimate interest in knowing which pages help guests book. They hold nothing about you.
- Offers and news after an enquiry about a booking or an event: the "soft opt-in" in the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, and our legitimate interest in telling guests about our own restaurant. You can say no on the form or at any time after.
- Newsletter and analytics: your consent. You can withdraw it at any time.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your information. We share it only with the services that run this website and our email (listed above), with Dojo when you book online, with Google if you accept cookies or load the live map, or where the law requires us to. Some of these services are based outside the UK, including in the United States.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of the information we hold about you
- correct information that is wrong
- delete your information
- restrict or stop using your information
- give you your information in a format you can take elsewhere

If you are unhappy with how we have used your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.
